Knettishall Procedures Revamp

Vic Blackwood, Club Secretary sent the following email to all members, on 7 May 2021:

‘Hi,
The Fersfeld Flying Group have recently revamped their procedures for operating full-size aircraft at Knettishall. The new procedures will also apply to visiting aircraft who have obtained PPR (prior permission) to land at the airfield. The new procedures are designed to be “model-flying” friendly and include the following:

Departure (Full size)
Aircraft departing on R/W26 (to the west) will have to taxy past the model site/pilot- box and thus any modellers will be well aware of their intended take-off.

If R/W 08 (take-off to the east) is in use, those aircraft hangared at the western threshold will taxy up to the windsock to make their intentions clear to the modellers. They will then taxy back to the 08 threshold and then take off.

Landing lights and Nav lights will be used (if fitted)

Aircraft will announce their intentions on SafetyCom (before taxy and before take-off)

Landing (Full size)
Aircraft will join overhead (500ft) All landing patterns are to the north and can take several minutes  from Overhead to touchdown

Aircraft will announce their intentions in the Overhead and on Finals on the SafetyCom frequency

Modellers

A hand-held radio scanner is now kept in the container. The scanner must be used by the spotter when models are flying.

It has been pre-set to SafetyCom frequency( 135.480MHz) There is a diagram inside the container to show the switch-on/off procedure. Do not fiddle with the switches!

Replacement batteries are also provided. As stocks run low, please either inform one of the Committee to ensure the stock is replaced or buy some batteries and reclaim the costs from Kevin.

Note Well:      No scanner – No fly!

The Handbook has been updated to reflect these new procedures.

regards,
Vic’
