2024 Wacky Combat Rules Published

Given the Kick-Off event and bring or buy BBQ organised for 5 May, Ron has published his rules. Note the ‘get out of jail card’ – circumstances and experience may cause a change to any rule at Ron’s discretion.

2024 Wacky Combat Rules

The standard club rules for flying apply. So, there must always be a spotter present, in addition to those actively competing.

  1. Come again – Limbo type event, how many times can you fly your WW under the ribbon stretched between 2 poles. The poles used will be spaced approximately 20ft apart and with a crepe tape between their tops. Points scored for the number of successful passes. Note that all models will be in the air at the same time.

  2. Poles apart – pylon race type event, how many laps completed within 3 minutes (2 poles 50m apart mark the circuit, red flag for cutting circuit). Points scored for the number of successful laps.. Note that all models will be in the air at the same time.

  3. Viagra challenge – All up, last one down – all launched together, 5 secs engine run from launch, then power off and glide down. Last one down and landing within the designated area will win. Note that all models will be in the air at the same time.

  4. Team Kombat – All competitors will draw a coloured marker from the ‘hat’ to form 2 teams, Team Orange and Team White (colours may change depending on the crepe streamers I can get). Upon the command to ‘Scramble’ all models will take to the air and assume positions. There will then be an ‘Attack, Attack’ command issued whereupon each team will try and cut their opponents towed streamers. The dog fight will last for 4 minutes after which the total length of team streamers still attached will determine the winner, i.e. the team with the longest combined length of streamer wins.

  5. Individual Kombat (Provisional) – As above but 1 on 1, your opponent will be drawn from the hat.

  6. Target practice – A ‘target drone’ will fly backwards and forwards towing the target streamer and it will be the task of individual pilots to cut the streamer being towed. Note that all pilots will be in the air at the same time!

Please note that the above rules may be changed at any time by the Competition Organiser (Ron).

The above events will be run at ‘Club Days’ throughout the year and I’m hoping to be able to have 6 of these starting on the 5th May.

Points will be awarded for the best looking Wacky Warbird and at the end of the season for the most beat up but still flying one.

Winners will be announced at the Pilot’s Ball towards the end of the year, awards given out at the Pilot’s Other Ball at the AGM.

A permanent copy of the rules is available on the ‘Wacky Combat 2024‘ tab.

You may also notice that I have updated the Homepage to coincide with this release from Ron Gray. Believe it or not, the background photo is a still taken from a video Ron shot at Knettisall on 2 April this year. Sunny days at last and, obviously, anticipated for 5 May Kick Off BBQ.

See the tab ‘Wacky Combat 2024‘ for information.
