BMFA World Record Attempt 2023

Registration

Page updated 28 April 2023  with BMFA entry requirements

For our contribution to be ratified by the FAI, all participants must be registered by the coordinator, Ian McDowell. The following information will be required from every aspiring pilot:

  • Name
  • BMFA Number to fly Radio Control (must be a current member, and, in our case, a member of BMFC)
  • Model Type (Fixed Wing; Heli; Drone; Chuck Free Flight Powerd; Free Flight Unpowered [chuckie])
  • Model + power source (required by our Flight Controller to determine take off slots)
  • Expected duration of model (ditto)

It’s already a popular event. So, we are also expecting to use the registration information to group pilots to a specific take off area, 1 of 3 to be used, and sequence of launch – based on duration and characteristics of your chosen model.

You could chance it and leave registration until the day. But you must be registered by 11:15 to give Ron Gray, Flight Controller, a fair chance of sorting the take-off slots. It would also help everyone if you could supply the above information ahead of the gathering. Do this by emailing Ian, at ianmcdowell18@gmail.com.

Safety

To ensure safety, additional flight controls will be in place at the site all day. For the World Record Attempt, between 11:30 and 12:30 specific controls will be in place. Pilots of RC models will be briefed at 11:40 by Ron Gray, Flight Controller (yellow hi-viz jacket). No briefing, no flying.

It would be prudent to be familiar with the standard Knettishall flying rules and particularly the Site Layout and Restricted Zones in force on the day.

The single circuit flown (direction will be wind dependant) must come no nearer than 50m of ‘uninvolved spectators’. So, the near point will be beyond the windsock.

Your steed must be capable of slowish circuits and a grass field landing. You may also want to consider how to identify your aircraft amidst a gaggle of other, possibly similar, models.

General

Only BMFC members may fly radio control models for the attempt. Anyone can take part using a chuck glider/powered free flight.

To count towards the record, models must be in the air at 12:00 noon.
