The Drone and Model Aircraft Code (1)

Hopefully this is useful. My aim is to provide links to valid sources and then to clarify how the club is helping.

The BMFA Home Page is a good starting point, the News Feed in particular.

18/11 news article – has links to the CAA and the BMFA registration competency tests. These are required only for members without an achievement scheme award.

The CAA exemption certificate, available from the Members Only page (password required), details which achievement awards comply.

At the December club meeting, members without achievement certificates will be provided with individual assistance in this registration process if required.

25/11 news article – A clarification article covering the Operator number and a guide to complying with the law. BMFA ask that those without an achievement scheme award register via the BMFA to help their negotiating position. Those with an achievement scheme award need only pay their £9 CAA registration fee via the BMFA to comply with the law.

The Government Imposed Fees

LMA members with valid achievement certificates will have the £9 fee paid by the LMA.

BMFC members renewing their BMFA membership via the club will have their £9 fee paid by the club. Those with achievement scheme awards need do nothing more until they receive an email with their ‘Operator Number’ from the CAA. This must then be shown on every model flown (min 3mm high lettering, if in a hatch it must be available without the use of tools). The number is not essential until 23 February 2020.
