2023 Hanky Planky Wacky Races

Ron Gray, newly elected Competition Secretary, introduced a few ideas at the December Club Meeting for members to debate. Since then the website has largely focused on how you build a Hanky Planky ready for the kick off event in April.

Now, Ron has supplied some more information about this 2023 competition.

The current thinking is:

Wacky Races rounds to be flown at both Knettishall and Rougham, weekdays and weekends. After the kick off event in April individuals will be able to enter a score for any/all events whenever they are at either site

Ron will ‘officiate’ to start with but this could be extended to others. Scores will be kept on a spreadsheet on the website for all to be able to see (leader board).

The rounds:

  1. Come again – Limbo type event, how many times can you fly your HP under the ribbon stretched between 2 poles
  2. Break Bread –  6 breadsticks will be stuck in the ground and you have to see how many you can break in 1 pass without the HP touching the ground
  3. Poles apart – pylon race type event, how many laps completed within 3 minutes (2 poles 50m apart mark the circuit, red flag for cutting circuit). Note only 1 model at a time due to club rules
  4. Stick it in – closest landing to marker
  5. Cut the crepe – 2 models each with a crepe streamer, how many cuts of your opponents streamer can you do in 3 minutes
  6. Spin of death – 5 secs motor run then how many complete spinning rotations can you do before you have to pull out
  7. Viagra challenge – All up, last one down – all launched together, 5 secs engine run then power off and glide down
  8. Buster Balls – how many balloons can you burst in 1 minute

Points will be awarded for the best looking Hanky Planky.

Points will also be awarded for the most beat up Hanky Planky still flying at the end of season do in October – at the pilot’s ball.

And, there will be prizes.

Any other suggestions from club members for some fun flying would be appreciated. Let him know your thoughts at Club Meetings/when you see him/via email. See the ‘Members Only‘ page for Ron email address in the Committee table (password required).

Take a look at the ‘2023 Hanky Planky Wacky Races’ tab which has all available information about the Hanky Planky competition steed and a fuller explanation of Wacky Races.

New day, new name. It’s like being a politician:

As the information was all getting a bit complicated I have put all of the ‘news’ items into a category ‘2023 Hanky Planky Wacky Races‘; renamed the tab that links to the information page ‘2023 hanky Planky Wacky Races‘; re-organised the information page into a bit more order. Weirdly usefully I have also at last found a use for the search button at the top – search for Hanky and everything is shown. Hope it helps.
